Employers and training providers from across the North East come together for ECC Exclusive Business Engagement Event

March 6th marked the hosting of an exclusive Energy Central Campus Business Engagement Event, which saw several leading organisations alongside key education and training providers from across the North East of England attend to find out more about how Energy Central Campus is working to deliver their clean energy workforce of the future.

This exclusive event provided the opportunity for Energy Central Campus to discover how they can shape training provision to create the pipeline of talented individuals needed for roles within the expanding clean energy sector, through a ‘Voice of Industry’ workshop.

Energy Central Campus is a strategic partnership between Northumberland County Council, Port of Blyth and Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult. The £30m+ development is being delivered in two phases.

The first phase, Energy Central Learning Hub, will deliver STEM education and sector-related vocational and work-based learning in high-quality specialist training facilities. It will also house major conferencing capabilities as well as a visitor centre, to inspire the region’s population and to encourage collaboration between employers and education institutions.

The second phase, Energy Central Institute, will be a new higher-level skills and innovation facility, developing energy sector expertise at degree and PhD levels.

It was fantastic to be part of this event, which has allowed ECC to better understand the skills requirements of businesses within the North East’s clean energy sector. The overwhelmingly positive responses that we have received convinces me further that we are starting to create something that is truly going to make a difference.
— Martin Lawlor, Chief Executive at the Port of Blyth and First Chair of ECC
