Energy Central Campus Appoints First Employees to Support Clean Energy Workforce of the Future

Energy Central Campus (ECC) have recruited the first staff members for the all-new £15m+ Energy Central Learning Hub (ECLH) which is currently under construction at the Port of Blyth and set to open in September 2024.

Energy Central Campus is a unique partnership between the Port of Blyth, Northumberland County Council and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, focused on creating the pipeline of talent required for the expanding clean energy sector, at the same time, inspiring, training and delivering pathways to employment for the local community. Once built, the Energy Central Learning Hub will be a STEM education and vocational training facility, developing energy sector skills and aspirations amongst young people at school and college, and adults re-training for new roles within the sector.

Joining the ECC team as Head of Operations for the ECLH, is Paul Valentine, who will be responsible for ensuring the effective operational management of the facility and nurturing effective working relationships with employers and key training/education partners. Paul brings with him a wealth of experience in operational management and a proven track record of building successful partnerships. His strategic vision and leadership skills will be crucial in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the ECLH.

Also joining the ECC team as Operations Manager for the ECLH, is Sharon Foster, who will support Paul in the management of the facility and its ongoing development. Sharon has a strong background in facility management and a passion for STEM. Her expertise will be invaluable in supporting Paul and driving the ongoing growth and improvement of the ECLH.

Together, Paul and Sharon will work closely to expand operations, enhance the learning experience for students, and strengthen connections with employers and training partners. Their combined efforts will play a pivotal role in positioning the ECLH as a leading centre for clean energy education and training.

Energy Central Campus is one of the flagship projects of Energising Blyth, a £90m regeneration programme to grow, renew, and connect the town. The programme is being delivered by Northumberland County Council and funded in partnership with the UK Government, Northumberland County Council, North East Combined Authority and support from other partners.

We are thrilled to have Paul and Sharon joining the ECC team; their vast knowledge and years of experience working in the education sector will ensure that we deliver the highest quality training to learners, building a skilled talent pool for the growing clean energy companies in the North East of England.”
— Martin Lawlor OBE, Chief Executive of the Port of Blyth and First Chair of ECC.
